This Is Getting to Be a Habit
First it was Arnold announcing his opposition to Proposition 8 at Log Cabin’s National Convention… now, another GOP hero is stepping up for freedom and fairness, and choosing a Log Cabin venue to do it in. Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen is one of the five strongest allies for the LGBT community in Congress – from either party. She is a chief co-sponsor DADT repeal legislation, voted against the marriage amendment, supported ENDA and hate crimes, is a leading voice for equal treatment of the partners of US diplomats, and the list goes on. She doesn’t just vote in favor of these issues, she is a leader in seeking support for them – and now she’s taking a stand for equality by opposing Florida’s proposed “Amendment 2.” This amendment would ban not just same-sex marriage, but also civil unions or domestic partnerships. “[Amendment 2] could set us back…unnecessarily or could set us on the road to progress and equality. Because, although some proponents would like to phrase this debate as a gay versus straight issue, it is not that at all. We’re talking about basic, fundamental rights that could be in jeopardy.”
