Hold everyone accountable!

Left-leaning blog Queerty.com has this to say about our response to the McCain robo-call:

The Log Cabin Republicans are missing the point of the McCain episode.  The fact that the campaign – with or without his knowledge – ran such a tasteless ad not only taints the political pool, but speaks volumes about how the Republicans consider queer citizens.

And just what exactly does it say about how the Clintons consider “queer” citizens when President Clinton urged John Kerry to support anti-gay state constitutional amendments in 2004?  What does it say about the way the DNC considers “queer” citizens when they don’t lift a finger to stop these amendments?  (But keep those checks coming, “queers”!)  What does it say when the former President still refuses to take any responsibility for the results of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”–the despicable law he signed–and instead blames the Pentagon?

I think Mr. Queerty misses the point on our response.  If LGBT people are ever going to be anything more than shills for the Democratic Party, we have to start holding EVERYONE to the same standards to which we hold our leading Republican presidential contenders.

Mayor Rudy Giuliani

Log Cabin President Patrick Sammon had this to say today about the end of Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s presidential campaign:

“Mayor Giuliani ran a positive and spirited campaign.  Throughout his career, the Mayor has advocated for an inclusive GOP–a vision that represents our Party’s future.  In his concession speech Tuesday in Florida, the Mayor said, ‘We need to re-establish, very very clearly, the idea that the Republican Party…is a party that has been from the beginning, when we do it right…a big party.  We’re a big party.  And we’re getting bigger.’

Mayor Giuliani understands that to remain a viable party and to compete against Democrats in November, we must appeal to all voters–including independents, conservatives, libertarians, and mainstream Republicans.  He had an inclusive record on gay and lesbian issues as Mayor of New York City.  Though Log Cabin has not made an endorsement in the primary, some of our members supported Mayor Giuliani.  We thank him for his service to our country and look forward to working with him in the future.”

McCain Campaign Robo-Calls

The blogosphere has been chattering this afternoon about a supposedly anti-gay robo-call the McCain campaign launched at Gov. Mitt Romney.

The attacks on Sen. John McCain by the gay Left are completely out-of-bounds and don’t reflect the facts.

Let’s look at those facts:

Had anyone bothered to reach out to the McCain Campaign, they would have realized Sen. McCain immediately stopped the calls.  The campaign told us Sen. McCain never saw the script and never approved it, which is why he stopped the calls ASAP.

Of course, those facts won’t satisfy the left-wing who pounces on these kinds of things.  But where were these same left-wingers when Democrat Barack Obama, who has never introduced a single piece of pro-gay legislation in his Senate career, paraded around on stage with an anti-gay religious leader who believes in so-called “conversion therapy”?  Where were they when Democrat Sen. Hillary Clinton couldn’t bring herself to denounce Gen. Peter Pace’s anti-gay remarks last year?  Where were they when Obama proposed meetings and negotiations with the gay-murdering president of Iran?

We can’t defend the McCain staffer who initiated these short-lived robo-calls, but let’s hold both sides accountable, folks!

My Interview with Shelli Baker – Click to Listen!

Shelli Baker InterviewLast week at the New Hampshire Republican Party’s Presidential Primary Brunch I had the opportunity to speak with religious radio broadcaster Shelli Baker from Salem Radio Group in Boston.  Click here to listen.  First, a big thank you goes out to Shelli for giving Log Cabin the opportunity to be heard on her show.  THANKS SHELLI!  Overall the interview went very well.  Shelli was very fair with her questions and we had very nice exchange.

BUT… I do take issue with some of the content of her introduction which, frankly, made me laugh.  In her introduction to the interview, Shelli states that I came up to her asking to be interviewed.  That is just not the case.  I introduced myself to her and struck up a conversation during the VIP reception before the brunch.  I had no idea that she was a radio talk show host.  About 5 or 10 minutes into our conversation, she asked if I would like to be interviewed then she brought out her lap-top and microphone.  The other inaccuracy in her introduction pertains to Log Cabin’s sponsorship of the event.  We were, in fact, one of 5 or 6 groups who contributed more than the cost of a $1,500 table (not $200) to help underwrite the event.  Shelli was just flat wrong in that statement.

Again, I think that overall it was a good interview.  There are parts where you can hear that she edited my statements.  (I wish you could hear the whole unedited version.)  Make sure to listen all the way to the end.  Her closing remarks are a hoot!  She directs her listeners to a wacky web-site!
